Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology

Many of us might be familiar with various departments of executive branch of government like DOE, DOLE, DILG, DOJ and so on. But for DICT, some of us might not have heard of it since it is a relatively new department.

In accordance to Republic Act No. 10844, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) shall be the primary policy, planning, coordinating, implementing, and administrative entity of the Executive Branch of the government that will plan, develop, and promote the national ICT development agenda. The complete description can be found at www.dict.gov.ph/republic-act-no-10844.

As what we begin to see under its commitment to provision of Wi-Fi access at no charge in selected public places including parks, plazas, public libraries, schools, government hospitals, train stations, airports, and seaports, we see the following announcement from there website at www.dict.gov.ph  which  is about inauguration of free public Wi-Fi along EDSA lead by DICT.  The project was made possible by utilizing internet service providers Globe Telecom and PLDT, Inc. Internet will be free via Wifi but will be subject to 30 minute usage limit. Online access will be restricting downloads and visit to adult content sites.

DICT also unveils the National Cybersecurity Plan 2022 which highlights safeguarding of information in the Philippines.
