Backyard Herbal Oregano

It is surprising how oregano being a small backyard plant can be a good cure to common colds and cough. Oregano is a herbal plant valued for its medicinal value. Keeping a plant in your background is a good thing as common colds are common disease and needs to be cured effectively to avoid transmission of the sickness. Oregano has the scientific name Origanum vulgare. It is related to the mint plants and have a strong flavor. It is native to temperate western and southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region but is adapting any tropical climate as well. Oregano is a perennial herb, growing from 8 to 30 inches tall. The leaves are yellow green and needs moist soil to grow. The Leaves are thick and has high moisture content that can be extracted as cold herbal medicine. 





Oregano is easy to propagate. Get a stem that is mature enough and plant on cleared garden, flower pot, or at backyard where enough sunlight can reach the plant. Add enough water and once the plant develops the leaves, that means the plant already recovered and it grows the leaves to get more sunlight. The ideal oregano leaves for cold medicine are young leaves which as green in color compared to the mature and old yellow green leaves. Prepare the extract by juicing the leaves into a vessel. The juicy is then taken internally by drinking the extract. For faster extraction, then leaves are heated by exposing near a flame source and the leaves become softer for extraction.
